Pantone has just revealed its 2020 Color of the Year, Classic Blue, calling it a “reassuring presence instilling calm, confidence, and connection.”
Unlike last year’s choice of Living Color—and 2018’s Ultra Violet—Classic Blue is a more “timeless and enduring hue” that highlights “our desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era,” they said.
If that sounds like it is slightly politically and socially motivated—that could be by design, although, much like the execution of the color itself in fashion and home, much is up to interpretation.
“We’re living in this time now where things seem to be, around the world, a little bit, I don’t want to use the word unstable, but let’s just say a little shaky,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release. “Nothing is absolutely certain from one moment to the […]
A FUNdraiser gala for a great cause…and right in our neighborhood. Can’t wait to see all of our friends from the building industry supporting this amazing organization on Thursday evening!
Have millennials finally taken over the lion’s share of the real estate market? It sure looks that way. The latest evidence: Rising housing starts, especially among new homes—an uptick that Sheryl Palmer, CEO of Taylor Morrison, largely attributes to lower mortgage rates fueling millennial homebuyers. Palmer said on CNBC that one in three of the company’s buyers are in this demographic group. “Five years ago, the generation made up 20% of Taylor Morrison’s buyers,” she said, and affordability issues are ‘not as real as I think the media portrays. Everyone talks about the millennials like they’re just one group of people and they’re not buying. We’re just not seeing that. In fact, we’re finding exactly the opposite: They’re quite qualified.”
Taylor Morrison said their housing orders were up by 30% in July and August, and they’re not alone. Many builders are seeing the same kind […]
We are excited to announce our five SoCal Awards finalists, in categories that showcase a wide range of disciplines, for a family-oriented master plan in Ventura and a luxury Pasadena community. These two projects represent the creativity and commitment of multiple Weston/Mason team members in concert with two very collaborative clients. They were also spearheaded by Tom Weston, our late co-founder and industry legend, which makes these nominations even more special — although definitely bittersweet.

Techies have long searched for the true meaning of the iconic bite in Apple’s ubiquitous mark. According to The Drum’s interview with designer Rob Janoff, the nibble is actually a “purely functional modification.” Says Janoff: “It wasn’t Adam and Eve… The bite was necessary to ensure the fruit was easily identifiable.”
It was #SundayFunday for Dionne Cook — our Queen of Client Problem-Solving — who spent the day with @QueenNation creating social media posts for client LA Urban Homes. It seems like the entire Westside came out for this free show! #workNotWork
What’s considered to be the first-ever, click-through banner ad was part of a 1993 AT&T campaign, which is eerily prescient. One #fail: They predicted video calling, but not MOBILE video calling, and showed “FaceTime” taking place in a phone booth. 🤣 The banner ad ran on HotWired.com in October, 1994, and achieved an initial click-through rate of 44%!

MARKETING: 2019 Planning and Budgeting
December is always a busy month for homebuilders. There’s a significant push to sell inventory and add contracts for Q4, while developing the next year’s strategy and celebrating the holidays in between. It can feel overwhelming and exhilarating at the same time.
Weston/Mason has been working with builders and masterplan developers for almost 30 years, and we know how important it is to be ready for a new direction in Q1. We keep up with the multitude of changes in print and digital marketing and can identify the best channels to include in your plan.
